THE TURNIP
In Jan Brett's book The Turnip, Badger Girl discovers an ENORMOUS turnip growing in her garden. There was only one problem...how was she going to pull it up out of the ground?
Soon the whole badger family was working together to tug on the turnip. But it wouldn't budge!
Other animals came to lend a hand. The turnip would not come up out of the ground. Rooster came along, and said he thought that he could pull it up...
Underneath the turnip, in their den, some bears noticed the bottom of the turnip growing down into their home. They pushed the turnip up as the other animals tugged from the top, and out it came! Of course, the animals above ground thought that Rooster had been the one to make the difference.
They made turnip pancakes to celebrate Rooster.
