THE PUMPKIN PATCH PARABLE
I just want to start off by saying how honored I am to make this list!!!
And I am in good company! Check out the list {here} to find more great blogs & bloggers!
We have been doing a lot of fun pumpkin activities, and made these crazy jack-o-lanterns
This week we did a book study of Liz Curtis Higgs' book The Pumpkin Patch Parable. This book was a perfect fit for my classroom, while teaching reading activities in the fall in Kindergarten without using the usual type of Halloween story.
THE PUMPKIN PATCH PARABLE BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
Looking for a fall or Halloween read aloud to use in your Kindergarten or First Grade classroom that's a little bit different? Not interested in the usual spooky tales? Try The Pumpkin Patch Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs!
Here are a few of the many activities we did based on this book, including sequencing the story, pocket chart activity, vocabulary word search, story elements, play-doh mats, ABC order, pumpkin brace map, text-to-self connections, syllable sorting, author's purpose, and more!
The Pumpkin Patch Parable takes readers through the life cycle of a pumpkin. It's great for cross-curricular studies if you are learning about pumpkins in your classroom! It also has a parable (a lesson within the story) that compares people to pumpkins! Pumpkins are filled with yucky stuff (pulp), as are we (sin). We scoop out the pulp and light a candle in the pumpkin as Jesus takes our sins away and lets our lights shine.
My book activities unit will enrich your reading curriculum as students develop their literacy experience and reading comprehension skills while doing activities that are fun and engaging.
The activities in this literacy unit are aligned with Common Core, TEKS, and VA SOL learning standards. Checklists for these standards are included in the unit to help you with your planning!
This book study unit can be used for whole class instruction, during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. This allows for greater differentiation of instruction to help you reach all of your learners.
This companion unit will save you tons of time, is low prep, and is great to leave for a sub!
Your Kindergarten and First Grade students will learn important reading skills with these literacy companion printables, reading comprehension worksheets and fun lesson ideas.
PUMPKIN PATCH PARABLE CRAFT
This Pumpkin Patch Parable craft is a great follow-up to the story, and makes a great fall bulletin board display, to showcase student learning. A chart is included to explain how we are like pumpkins :)
Congratulations!!! Loved your activities. I'm also from Ontario!
