JUNIE B JONES IS ALMOST A FLOWER GIRL
Junie B is tired of everyone treating her like a baby, saying she is too young for everything in Junie B Jones is Almost a Flower Girl by Barbara Park. For example, she has just lost her boyfriend Ricardo to new Thelma, the new girl in their kindergarten class. Her mom (and teacher) think she's too young to have boy problems, but Junie sees herself as a grown-up lady.
Then Junie B receives some exciting news. Her Aunt Flo is getting married! Junie B will be able to attend her first wedding. Her friend Lucille asks Junie B if she will be the flower girl. Junie B has never heard of that, so Lucille goes on to explain how the flower girl is the very first person to walk down the aisle at the wedding. She gets to carry a basket and throw beauteous flower petals all over the floor. Lucille then proceeds to help Junie B practice being a flower girl.
When Junie B gets home, she excitedly tells Grampa Miller that she is going to be the flower girl at Aunt Flo's wedding. When Grampa Miller informs Junie B that someone else is doing this task, Junie B grabs the phone and calls Aunt Flo herself. Junie B tells Aunt Flo that she is their flower girl, and that she has already practiced and knows what she'll be wearing. Aunt Flo has to break the bad news to Junie B that she already has chosen someone else to be the flower girl.
The next day Aunt Flo calls back and invites Junie B to be the alternate flower girl. She is also invited to sit with the wedding party at the reception.
The day of the wedding has arrived! Junie B is wearing a new dress. She sits in the church and sees the flower girl approaching. Junie B figures that as the alternate flower girl, she would be allowed to grab a few flower petals and toss them. She was wrong. Junie B and the flower girl have a little tussle and Junie B is made to sit down and behave. At the reception, Junie B is seated next to the flower girl. She goes on to teach the flower girl how to be a grown-up lady, since she is a whole year older.
