THE PIGEON NEEDS A BATH
Pigeon Needs a Bath...but does he want one? No way! Your students will love Mo Willems' Pigeon as he refuses to take a bath. Maybe they can relate to Pigeon, too! This book activities unit and craftivity will have students digging right into the story!
Pigeon is filthy. He is told he needs a bath. But he swears he JUST took one...maybe a month ago?!
Pigeon does NOT want to take a bath. He finds it unimportant. He swears he smells fine! At least, for a pigeon.
However, Pigeon is surrounded by flies. Surely that must mean something, right? Especially when the flies can't stand to be around Pigeon because he stinks too much! Even the flies tell Pigeon to take a bath!
This convinces Pigeon that he must need a bath after all. He heads to the bathtub. Pigeon is convinced he will NOT LIKE taking a bath.
Pigeon is full of complaints. The water is too hot, too cold, too lukewarm. The water in the tub is too wet, too deep, not deep enough. There are too many toys in the tub, and not enough toys in the tub. Finally, Pigeon hops into the bathtub with a SPLASH!
What do you know? Pigeon thinks having a bath is fun! He loves the bubbles and his wrinkly toes, singing, and playing with Duckling. In fact, Pigeon loves taking his bath so much he stays in it for TEN HOURS. And wants to stay in it forever!
The Pigeon Needs a Bath is a great book for students to make text-to-self connections. Students can think about things they did NOT want to try, and finding out they liked it after all. This writing craftivity has students sharing about a time they have experienced this, and it makes a cute bulletin board display!
This book activities unit is packed with literacy companion activities to go with The Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Willems. It includes tons of Common Core, TEKS, and VA SOL standards based activities for Kindergarten and First Grade.
