One day Maggie receives a parcel. She was very excited, until she opened it and discovered it was no more than a crate of dirt. Inside were bulbs to be planted. It was not a gift Maggie wanted. Her father was disappointed, as the gift was from him.
Maggie brought the crate to the cellar, and mostly didn't think about it. The next spring, Maggie headed to the cellar to retrieve gardening items for her father. She accidently knocked over the crate of dirt and bulbs. Feeling frustrated, Maggie tossed the bulbs outside and didn't give them a second thought.
On Easter morning, Maggie discovered something wonderful. The bulbs she had tossed outside had grown into beautiful Easter lilies! Maggie shared the joy with her family, and apologized to her father for not being more thankful for his gift. With many Biblical parallels, The Parable of the Lily helps students learn about the true meaning of Easter.
