A BAD CASE OF STRIPES
David Shannon's book A Bad Case of Stripes is a great read aloud to use in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade classrooms when talking about peer pressure and the importance of being yourself.
On her first day of school, Camilla woke up covered in stripes! There was no way she could go to school like that, so she stayed home. Dr. Bumble could not figure out the problem, but said Camilla could go to school the next day.
Camilla was so worried what others would think. And as she worried about this, her stripes changed to other things, depending on what she was thinking about.
All she wanted to do was fit in, but she kept standing out! An old woman saw news footage about Camilla's problem and came over to help. She told her to eat lima beans, Camilla's favorite food (and one she never ate because her friends hated them).
This book activities unit is packed with literacy companion activities to go with A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon. It includes a class book, where students can make text-to-self connections.
