THE MITTEN ACTIVITIES
Last week we read The Mitten by Jan Brett. It's a student favorite! It's my top winter read aloud, and we do lots of literacy activities based on this book.In the story, Hedgie the hedgehog finds a mitten in the snow. Since he's cold from the wintery weather, he climbs inside to get warm and toasty.
When other forest animals notice what Hedgie has done, they decide to head inside the mitten to warm up too!
The animals go into the mitten from smallest to largest, which makes this story great for sequencing...and makes it so funny that they can all squeeze into a regular sized mitten. That is, until a mouse arrives...
...and causes the bear to sneeze, making all of the animals pop out of their warm, cozy haven!
Nicki finds his lost mitten, albeit a little more stretched out than when he first lost it in the snow!
This book activities unit is packed with Common Core aligned literacy companion activities to go with the book The Mitten by Jan Brett. It includes a craftivity that makes a wonderful bulletin board display, to showcase student learning.
Very cool, Anita. I love those ideas! What a great book to do with your class. I still love that one :)
