We have been learning about each of the 4 food groups in our Food Unit, and used The Little Red Hen as a springboard to the topic.
I gave students grocery store flyers, and they had to find a pictures of foods for each of the 4 food groups.
We added the pictures to our collaborative anchor chart:
We had a great visit at a dairy farm as we learned about dairy foods
I read different versions of The Little Red Hen when discussing the grains food group.
We did a few fun activities to go along with the story, including a vocabulary word search, story retell, text to self connections, story sequence, opinion pages, writing activities, and more.
This Little Red Hen book study literacy unit has Common Core aligned companion activities, a class book, and two craftivity options, for Kindergarten and First Grade. You can use it with any version of the story!
