Back To School Read Alouds

Favorite Back to School books for the classroom, perfect for the first day of school. These books are great read alouds to begin the school year in Kindergarten and First Grade. They cover topics like first day jitters, tattling, bullying, classroom behavior, self-regulation, & excitement and fears about going to school.

Every day this month I have read a Back to School book to my class about going to school. Here are some of the fun read alouds I've read to my class:

DAVID GOES TO SCHOOL

After each reading, we look at the story and compare it to our own experiences at school, making text to self connections.
For example:
-do we take pets to school?
-how do we act at school compared to David?
-were we nervous to come to school, like Chester?
-etc.

We've done book studies that cover literacy standards and cap it off with a fun craftivity or two :)

I have also used Read Aloud time as a springboard for introducing
fiction vs non-fiction, and my students have grasped this concept very well!
