Literacy Center Activities for Kindergarten

Literacy Center Activities for Kindergarten
The craziness that is my life is becoming a little bit more calm. A little bit. A. little. bit.

But by the end of this week things will be smoooooth sailing.

And then I can relax and be in full Christmas mode. Maybe sip some hot chocolate by the fireplace, reading a good book, admiring the Christmas decorations. Can't wait.

Here are the next 5 stations that my students will be rotating through:

Listening Center

We will be reading The Mitten by Jan Brett.

Students then fill in the reading response page with the title of the book and an illustration of their favorite part of the story. They also get to offer their opinion of the book.
The page is from Mrs. Jump's blog, and can be found here.

Students will write, stamp, and decorate the newest sight words that we've covered.
This page is from Mrs. I's blog, and can be found here.

Alphabet Center

Most of my students do not have the entire alphabet down pat, so this station will provide some much-needed practice. There are alphabet puzzles and magnetic letters to give some extra reinforcement in this area.

Sight Word Book

Our sight word booklet is called The Mitten, featuring the new sight word was.
The book is from Hubbard's Cupboard, and can be found here.
See here for how this activity is presented.

Letter Mazes

Kindergarten literacy centers
Students are working on letter mazes Kk through Oo.
FYI: I have created bundles of month-long literacy centers, to make things easy for Kindergarten teachers!
The packs include literacy activities in these 5 areas of learning:
1)Writing 2)Listening to reading 3) Word work (sight words)
4) Phonics/alphabet 5) Phonemic awareness
The packs are laid out, week by week, for the entire month. They include 5 stations for students to rotate through per week, with all of the components you’ll need for each activity.
Assessment tools are included to help keep learning on track and to keep your students accountable.
Learning is spiraled throughout the month, to help students build on their prior learning.
